The Tourist
The true star of "The Tourist" was Venice. This was a beautiful, glamorized trip to Venice without the sewer smell. Going into the movie, my expectations were to see a beautifully rendered, well shot movie. I wasn't disappointed. I loved the duelling cheekbones of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, while Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell are no slouches in the cheekbones department, either. The plot was just fun escapism and while I saw every twist and turn coming, my companions were surprised and pleased. Watching this movie in a theatre, I lost myself completely in the plot. However, when I watch it again on a DVD of the movie or on some commercial free premium channel, I will most likely be engaged in some productive activity such as darning socks, as the movie will no longer require my full attention. I may have fun watching all the costume changes of Ms. Jolie and once again marvel that on the long train trip to Venice, Jolie's character was unrumpled, makeup perfect without a single trip to the ladies room. That's my kind of fantasy.
